17 people died due to fire in building in Hyderabad

The only way to escape for those living in the building was a thin ladder, but they could not get out. Police said that there were jewelery shops on the ground floor of the building and people were living in the top flat.

Hyderabad: 17 people died in a fire in a building on Sunday near the historic Charminar. Most of the children were children. The fire was on a short circuit in a building in Gulzar House here. A senior police officer told PTI-language that all 17 people who were taken to the hospital were found to be dead. The only way to escape for those living in the building was a thin ladder, but they could not get out. Police said that there were jewelery shops on the ground floor of the building and people were living in the top flat, which spread the smoke and suffocated people.

Could not participate due to narrow ladder

Telangana State Disaster Response and Director General of Fire Service, Y Nagi Reddy, who inspected the scene, told reporters that the fire occurred at around six in the morning. He said that information was given to the fire department at 6.16 am and fire engine was called at 6.17 am. He told that there were shops on the ground floor, while the first and second floors were residential. The main supply in the shopping area was closed. He said that a total of 21 people were in the building at the time of the fire and 17 of them were taken to the hospitals by the fire department in a state of unconsciousness. He said that there was only one way to escape, the ladder, which was very narrow and the people living could not run in a safe place.

Fire in ground floor spreads to upper floors

Telangana Fire Department said in a statement that the fire started in the ground floor and spread to the top floors. In a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of life and property due to the tragedy of the fire. He has announced to give Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured. The post said, “The death of the people in the fire tragedy in Hyderabad, Telangana, was deeply saddened. The family of each deceased will be given an ex -gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF. The injured will be given 50 thousand rupees.

Minister orders for investigation of accident

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy also expressed grief over the incident and instructed senior officials to take all necessary measures to save the people trapped in the building. Earlier, an official of the fire department said that he received a call at around 6.16 am and reached the spot. After visiting the spot, Transport and Minister in -charge of Hyderabad district Ponnam Prabhakar said that the fire broke out due to a short circuit. The minister said that orders have been ordered to investigate the accident.

The injured are being treated better: CMO

He said that four families belonging to each other were living in the building and many of them came to spend their holidays. Police said that a case has been registered. Union Minister Kishan Reddy also visited the spot. It has been said by the CMO that instructions have been issued to send the injured to hospitals immediately and to ensure proper treatment.
