PM Modi Addressed ASEAN Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the ASEAN Summit virtually on Sunday. During this, PM Modi said that India-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership is emerging as a strong foundation for global stability and development. Addressing the India-ASEAN annual summit, PM Modi also said that “the grouping is a key pillar of New Delhi’s Act East policy. India has always fully supported ‘ASEAN centrality’ and ASEAN’s vision on the Indo-Pacific region.”
2026 is ASEAN-India Maritime Cooperation Year
Prime Minister Modi said, “Even in these times of uncertainty, the India-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has made steady progress. Our strong partnership is emerging as a strong foundation for global stability and development.” The Prime Minister said that India has stood firmly with its ASEAN friends in every crisis and bilateral cooperation in the areas of maritime security and blue economy is growing rapidly.
He said that in this perspective, we are declaring 2026 as the Year of ASEAN-India Maritime Cooperation. Modi further said, “We are also rapidly advancing mutual cooperation in the fields of education, tourism, science and technology, health, green energy and cyber security. We will continue to work together to preserve our common cultural heritage and strengthen people-to-people ties.”
India moving forward science and technology

ASEAN-India relations started in 1992
ASEAN-India dialogue relations began in 1992 with the establishment of a regional partnership. It evolved into a full dialogue partnership in December 1995 and a summit-level partnership in 2002. In 2012, these relations were given the status of strategic partnership. Bilateral relations between India and ASEAN have grown significantly over the years, primarily aimed at promoting cooperation in the areas of trade and investment as well as security and defence.
