Goa Night Club Fire: A massive fire broke out in a night club in Goa last night. 23 people have died tragically in a fire in a night club in Arpora village of North Goa late on Saturday night. Many people have also been seriously injured. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that most of those killed were kitchen workers of the club, including three women. He further said that three to four tourists were also among those who died.
‘Safety norms were not followed’
Chief Minister Sawant, who reached the spot, said that out of 23 people, three died due to burns and the rest due to suffocation. The Chief Minister said that according to initial information, the night club did not follow fire safety norms. The fire broke out in Birch near Romeo Lane just after midnight. This popular party venue was opened last year in Arpora village, about 25 km from the state capital Panaji. Sawant said, “We will also take action against the club management and those officials who allowed it to go on despite breaking safety norms.”
PM announced compensation
Expressing grief over this accident, Prime Minister Modi has announced compensation for the families of the deceased and the injured. The PM wrote on Twitter, “The incident of fire in Arpora, Goa is very sad. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover as soon as possible. I have spoken to Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant about the situation. The state government is providing all possible help to the affected people. In connection with the Goa Club accident, PM Modi announced an ex-gratia of ₹ 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. To the injured. ₹50,000 will be given.”

fire caused by cylinder blast
CM Sawant said, this is an unfortunate incident during the peak tourist season in Goa. The Chief Minister said, “We will investigate the incident in detail and strict action will be taken against the culprits.” Goa Police Chief Alok Kumar said that the fire was caused by a cylinder blast. Local BJP MLA Michael Lobo said, “All 23 bodies have been recovered from the spot and have been sent to the Government Medical College, Bambolim.”
Notice issued to all night clubs
Lobo told reporters that firefighters and police teams immediately reached the spot and were engaged in rescue operations throughout the night. Lobo said officials will conduct a fire safety audit of all the clubs to ensure that such incidents do not happen again. The MLA said that Calangute Panchayat will issue a notice to all the night clubs on Monday asking them to give fire safety permission. He said that the licenses of those clubs which do not have the necessary permissions will be cancelled.
