Hyderabad News : Telangana has set an ambitious target of attracting new investment of Rs 1 lakh crore in the life sciences sector by 2030. The objective of which is to create employment for five lakh people. State IT and Industry Minister D Sridhar Babu said these things on Thursday. Delivering the keynote address at the AusBiotech International Conference 2025, jointly organized by AusBiotech and the Government of Victoria in Melbourne, the Minister said that the state government has prepared a comprehensive ‘Roadmap 2030’ to establish Telangana as a global life sciences hub. Babu said Telangana is formulating a comprehensive life sciences policy to accelerate innovation, infrastructure and global partnerships.

Investment of Rs 3.2 lakh crore in the state

He said that Telangana contributes more than 5 percent to India’s gross domestic product. He said that Telangana’s gross domestic product (GSDP) growth rate in 2024-25 was 8.2 percent, while the national average is 7.6 percent. He said that in the last 20 months, the state has attracted new investments worth Rs 3.2 lakh crore, of which Rs 63,000 crore has come from the life sciences sector alone. Exports from this sector crossed Rs 26,000 crore between April and December 2024. The minister said that Telangana aims to increase the value of life sciences economy from US$ 80 billion to US$ 250 billion by 2030. Babu said that Telangana is investing heavily in new technologies in biotechnology, artificial intelligence and healthcare.

Australian companies invited

He said that both Life Sciences University and Young India Skills University are initiatives of the Telangana government, designed to nurture the next generation of talent in advanced science and technology domains. He said that the state is working with the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution of the World Economic Forum and other global institutions to strengthen the skill development and innovation ecosystem. Babu invited Australian companies to explore investment opportunities in emerging and high-growth sectors such as cell and gene therapy, biologics and biosimilars, mRNA vaccines, development and manufacturing (CRDM), diagnostics, medtech and digital health. He also highlighted Telangana’s focus on AI-based drug discovery, genomics, green biomanufacturing, agri-biotech and animal health.
