Fake notes seized in Maharashtra: In Ahilyanagar district of Maharashtra, police busted a fake currency racket, after which seven members of an inter-district gang have been arrested and fake notes worth Rs 59.50 lakh have been seized, an official gave this information on Friday. He said that two of the seven accused were arrested from Ahilyanagar in western Maharashtra and the rest from Beed and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar districts of Marathwada region of the state. According to the information received, a member of the gang is absconding. Since July 27, the seizure and arrests of fake notes have been made from various places.
500 rupees fake notes recovered
According to the official, on July 27, the police arrested two suspects roaming in Ambilwadi area of Nagar Taluka police station in Ahilyanagar district and registered a case after recovering a fake notes worth Rs 80,000 of Rs 500 from them. Both named Nikhil Shivaji Gangarde (27) and Somnath Shinde (25) were arrested while they were buying cigarettes from fake notes. He said that more fake notes were recovered in the search of his car and a case was registered under the relevant sections of BNS.
Who was arrested?
After investigation, the official said, the Ahilyanagar police arrested five more members of the gang – Pradeep Kapre (28, Beed), Mangesh Shirsath (40), Vinod Arbat (53), Anil Pawar (34) and Akash Bansode (27) -. All of them are residents of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He told that his partner Ambadas Sasane, a resident of Ahilyanagar, is absconding and efforts are being made to catch him. The police have seized fake notes worth Rs 59.50 lakh from the arrested accused. The official said that in addition, high quality paper and ink worth Rs 2.16 crore used in printing of fake notes have also been seized from them. Pralhad Geete, assistant inspector of Ahilyanagar taluka police station, told the news agency PTI, “Those arrested from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar were involved in making fake notes. The person arrested from Beed used to work as middlemen and brought customers for these notes.” According to police officials, further investigation is being done and soon the rest of the gang members will also be caught.
