Port Blair News: In view of maritime security, the Indian Coast Guard and Andaman and Nicobar Police arrested seven Myanjari hunters in a joint operation near the interview island. A senior police officer said on Friday that the Myanmar boat carrying a large amount of sea cucumbers while chasing on September 10 overturned while running towards Coco Island in Myanmar. The senior police officer said that about 11 foreign hunters jumped into the sea to save their lives. He said that the Coast Guard officials rescued three of them and handed them over to the police, while eight uninhabited interviews floated towards the island. We immediately deployed our nearby forces with our nearby 20 officers (experts of guerrilla warfare strategy) and managed to catch four inside the forest. We are looking for four more people. The campaign is still going on.

Coast Guard chased foreign boat

The interview island is part of the North and Central Andaman Administrative District and is about 125 km north of Port Blair and about 150 km from Coco Island in Myanmar. This island is a resting place for predators due to proximity to Myanmar. During regular patrolling on 10 September, the Pilot of Coast Guard Dornier Aircraft saw the suspicious activity of a fishing traler near the interview island. He was warned and asked to reduce his speed. Meanwhile, the pilot informed the Andaman and Nicobar command. On receiving the information, immediately under the supervision of a senior commandant, we ran a close patrol towards the ship island and warned them to reduce their speed. The sea was very stormy. The hunters refused to surrender. He tried to escape and during the operation, there were some technical problems in the dingi and his boat was overturned near the interview island. A senior official of Andaman and Nicobar Command said that we rescued three hunters from the sea and handed over to the police, while the rest of the hunters swam and ran towards the island and hid in the dense forest.

Sea cucumber smuggling threat to India’s security

The senior official said that our campaign is going on. Last month, Andaman and Nicobar Police arrested 23 foreign hunters and seized about 550 kg of sea cucumbers. Sea cucumbers help to keep the sea level clean by eating rotting substances and food stored on the sea level. These slow growing cucumbers are easily found in sea water 30-60 feet. They are used for medicinal purposes and as the main material in some foreign dishes in the international market. The poaching of these sea properties by Myanmar’s predators not only pose a serious threat to the sea ecology, but also damages the corals. Apart from this, these hunters also pose a threat to India’s maritime security. According to the data available with Andaman and Nicobar Police, a total of 66, 98, 70 and 67 (till September 12, 2025) in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, Myanmar’s poachers were arrested.
