This accident happened when people gathered in large numbers to participate in a large number of ‘Dhondachi Jatra’. In this, devotees walk barefoot on the burning coals and show their faith. During this time, there was chaos in the midst of a huge crowd, after which a stampede-like situation occurred and there was a stampede, due to which many people have died.

CM met the injured

In such a situation, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant reached the hospital to meet the injured as soon as information about the incident was received. During this time, the injured have been admitted to Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim and North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa. Mu Pramod Sawant along with his wife Sulakshana Sawant, Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tensionde and MLA Premendra Shet and Carlos Ferrera also reached the place where there was a stampede.

Let us tell you here that Larai Devi is a Hindu goddess who is mainly worshiped in Goa. During this time thousands of devotees come here to visit here. For this, more than 1000 police personnel were deployed. Not only this, the help of CCTV cameras and drones was also taken to control the crowd. However, despite this, the situation got out of control and this accident happened.

When is it celebrated?

Larai Devi ‘Jatra’ is also known as Shirgaon ‘Jatra’. This festival is held every year in honor of Larai Devi in ​​Shirgaon village of Bicholim taluka. According to the Hindu calendar, it is held in Chaitra month (March-April) and lasts for several days.
