Tahwwur Rana told David Headley after 26/11 terror attacks- ‘Indians were worthy of this’

The US on Wednesday extradited Canadian citizen Tahawwur Hussain Rana to prosecute 10 criminal allegations related to his alleged role in the 2008 terrorist attack in India. 166 people including six Americans were killed in this attack.

The statement issued by the Department of Justice said that Rana’s extradition is an important step towards getting justice for those six Americans and other victims, who were killed in heinous attacks in Mumbai. India alleges that Rana provided a fake cover to travel to Mumbai to visit Dawid Geelani to visit David Headley, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET) to visit Mumbai.

Headley is Rana’s childhood friend. On two different occasions, Rana allegedly helped Headley to prepare and submit a visa application in front of Indian officials, which had such information about which Headley knew that she was false. Rana, through his business partner, had also provided documents by Headley in an attempt to take a formal approval from Indian officials to open his immigration business branch office. The statement said, “For more than two years, Headley met Rana repeatedly in Chicago and explained his surveillance activities, Lashkar’s reactions to Headley’s activities and the possible Lashkar’s possible plans to attack Mumbai.

Lashkar militants opened fire in Mumbai between 26 and 29 November 2008

Lashkar-e-Taiba was sentenced to 14 years in jail after providing physical assistance to Lashkar-e-Taiba in 2013 and a failed terror conspiracy sponsored by Lashkar-e-Taiba in Copenhagen, Denmark. The statement said that as part of the same criminal proceedings, Headley argued that 12 federal terrorism charges, which included assisting six Americans in Mumbai and later planning to attack a Danish newspaper and was sentenced to 35 years in jail. In June 2010, the US took action on the appeal of Rana’s extradition from India.
