India is a film lover country, but most people reach the cinemas: Aamir Khan

There is a serious need to invest in infrastructure to promote the development of the industry. There are many districts and large areas in the country, where there is not a single theater.

Mumbai: Superstar Aamir Khan said on Friday that India is a film lover country, but most of its people do not have access to theaters. He was addressing the session titled “Future Studios: Bringing India on World Studio Map” on the second day of the first world visual audience and entertainment summit (Waves). Aamir said that there is a serious need to invest in infrastructure to promote the development of the industry. I believe that we need to make many other theater in India. There are many districts and large areas in the country, where there is not a single theater.

India is far behind America and China in terms of number of cinema screens

Said that I think that whatever problems we have faced in the last several decades, they are only about the number of screen. According to me, we should invest on this. The actor said that India has immense possibilities, but it can be realized only when you have more screens across the country. If this does not happen, people will not watch movies. The superstar emphasized that India is far behind the US and China in terms of the number of cinema screens. We have very few theater according to the size of the country and the number of people living here. I think we have about 10 thousand screens. In America, which has one third of the population of India, there are 40 thousand screens. So they are far ahead of us. China has 90 thousand screens.

Only two percent of the population in the country sees hit films

Aamir said that half of these 10 thousand are also in the south and the remaining half are in the rest of the country. Therefore, it is usually about five thousand screens for a Hindi film. He said that only a small part of Indians for blockbuster films is capable of watching them in theaters. Said that only two percent of the population in our country, known as a film lover country, watches our biggest hit films in theaters. The rest 98 percent – Where are you watching the film? He also said that there is no cinema hall in many areas of India, including areas like Konkan.

Shahrukh Khan also advocated more theaters in the country

Aamir said that people in those areas will hear about films, will see online discussion, but there is no way to see them, this is a very unfortunate situation. So the first thing we need to do is that we should have more screens. On the first day of the Shikshakhar Sammelan, Aamir’s contemporary Shah Rukh Khan also advocated more theaters in the country. He said that I still believe that today’s demand is of simple, cheap cinemas in small cities and towns, so that we can show Indian films in any language at cheap rates to more and more Indians. Aamir was accompanied by filmmaker Ritesh Sidhwani, Dinesh Vision, Namit Malhotra, PVR Einox founder Ajay Bijli and American filmmaker Charles Rowan.
