International open chess tournament in Delhi from 7 June

All matches will be played as per the FIDE rules under the Swiss system format. Each section will have 10 rounds. The top 10 players will be given a prize of Rs 1 lakh or more.

New Delhi: The International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament in Delhi has been held from 7 to 14 June. About 2,500 players from more than 15 countries will participate in this tournament, including 20 Grandmasters. In the 21st edition of the Delhi International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament to be held here from 7 to 14 June, players will compete in three rating -based categories. This tournament is being organized by the Delhi Chess Association. Players will be given prizes of Rs 1.21 crore in the tournament.

Category A prize money Rs 51 lakh

Category A prize money for all international level players is Rs 51 lakh. 35 lakh rupees will be given to every player with less than Category B and C rating. All matches will be played as per the FIDE rules under the Swiss system format. Each section will have 10 rounds. Bharat Singh Chauhan, president of Delhi Chess Association, said that in the last two decades, the Delhi Grandmasters Open has not only maintained synergy with the rise of chess in India, but has also helped in advancing it. Said that we have seen this game coming in the mainstream. Said that with every version we are strengthening the foundation of a permanent, high -performance chess culture in the country. Classical time control will be used in Category A matches. It has 90 minutes and 30 seconds increase from the first move.

Special award of Rs 1 lakh to the best foreign player

In Category A, the best female player and the best foreign player will be given a special award of Rs 1 lakh. Category B games will follow the format of 60 minutes plus 30 seconds, while Category C will have a format of 30 minutes plus 30 seconds. Delhi GM Open, which has played an important role in shaping the career of many Indian chess stars. Which includes former winners Arjun Arigasi, Arvind Chitambaram, R Pragyandha and world champion Gukesh Domaraju. Bharat Singh Chauhan, president of Delhi Chess Association, said that it has become the largest chess tournament in Asia.
