Three Indians Missing From Iran: A worrisome news has come out from Iran’s capital Tehran, where three Indian citizens have mysteriously disappeared. The Indian Embassy in Tehran has started immediate action on this matter and has taken it seriously before the Iranian officials. The three missing citizens are from the same family and they have not been able to contact Iran on May 1.
What did the Indian Embassy say?
The Indian Embassy issued an official statement on the microblogging platform ‘X’ saying, “We have received information from family members of three Indian citizens that their relatives are missing since Iran’s visit to Iran. We have strongly raised the matter before Iranian officials and requested that these citizens be detected as soon as possible and their safety should be ensured.”
Where are the missing youths?
The missing citizens have been identified as Hushnpreet Singh (Sangrur), Jaspal Singh (SBS Nagar), and Amritpal Singh (Hoshiarpur). According to sources, all three had reached Iran through an agent, which promised to send them to Australia illegally. Family members have claimed that the kidnappers have demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore, although it has not been officially confirmed.
Indian embassy in constant contact with Iranian administration
The embassy said that it is in constant touch with the Iranian administration and has sought cooperation from local police and other concerned agencies. The embassy has assured the family that it is taking the matter on priority and providing them regular updates. However, it is not clear when and where these citizens went missing, and whether the matter is criminal, an accident, or any other reason.
Family members demand from the government
The family told the media that no clue has been found since the missing youths reached Iran, which has increased their concern. The incident has also attracted attention between India and Iran at diplomatic level, as this matter is related to the safety and accountability of Indian citizens. The Government of India and Ministry of External Affairs have taken this matter seriously. Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said, “We are in constant touch with the families of missing citizens and are making every effort to ensure their safety.”
Such incidents have happened even before this
This case has come to light when there was news of the disappearance of three other Indian citizens in Iran recently, who went there in December 2024 for business objectives. One of them, Yogesh Panchal, told the wife that his last conversation took place on 7 December, after which his phone stopped.
