Chandigarh: The Punjab Police is planning to install a GPS payal for drug smugglers who came out on bail so that their activities can be monitored. Giving the example of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that the police there use the wearing device to monitor the accused of the UAPA (illegal activity prevention Act). Yadav said that GPS Tracking Payal has been started for people who came out on bail under UAPA in Jammu and Kashmir. We are investigating the proposal from a legal point of view.
Drug de -addiction center will be sent to less drug addicts
Yadav said that when an accused is released on bail, there are some conditions. He said that after taking orders from the competent courts, GPS Payal will be imposed on the notorious smugglers who came out on bail, so that their activities can be monitored. Yadav said that this matter will be done on the basis of money and the right to privacy will be taken into consideration. The DGP stressed that short -term drug users would not be targeted. They will be sent to de -addiction centers. He said that the police will also focus on drug users who have been released on bail.

They (intoxication users) will be motivated to go to OAT (outpatient opioid assisted treatment) clinics and drug de -addiction centers. The DGP said that the station house officer will call such people in police stations and a self-declaration will be taken from them that they will neither consume drugs nor sell them. However, he said that the police will take action against those who commit crimes repeatedly.

The DGP said that an artificial intelligence software will be developed to upload the information about drug smugglers arrested in the districts in centralized data. He further said that drug addiction centers will be started in jails for drug users, which have been placed behind bars. Responding to a question on the deployment of a drone anti -drone system to prevent smuggling of drugs and weapons, Yadav said that the system has been ordered. He is expected to be distributed by July and August.
