IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer once again proved that he is capable of taking the team forward even under pressure. It remains to be seen whether Punjab will be able to create history on June 3 or will the trophy go for the first time in RCB’s bag? The final of IPL 2025 is really historic.
IPL 2025: The second qualifier of IPL 2025 was extremely exciting, where Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer. With this victory, Punjab has made it to the finals for the first time since 2014, but after the match, BCCI took action and also fined Iyer and his team for a slow over rate.
Glimpses of the match: Shreyas Iyer becomes hero
Mumbai Indians had scored 203 runs while batting first, which included aggressive innings of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma. In response, Punjab started a bit slow, but Shreyas Iyer played the captaincy innings and hit the team in the 19th over by hitting 8 sixes and 5 fours with 87 runs off 41 balls. He was also elected “Player of the Match” on the basis of this performance.
History created under captaincy

Shreyas Iyer has become the first captain of IPL history, who has brought three different teams to the finals. First Delhi Capitals then Kolkata Knight Riders and now Punjab Kings. As if the team whose team takes command is decided as if it is decided to go to the final.
Win on one side fined on the other side! BCCI action on Shreyas
After the match, the BCCI released a press release, stating that “Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined ₹ 24 lakhs for his team to maintain a slow over speed”. This action was taken by BCCI because it was the second slow over rate violation of the Punjab team this season. All the other players, including the impact player, were also fined ₹ 6 lakh or 25% match fees (whichever is less).
Hardik Pandya also did not survive
Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was also fined for slow over speed, although its amount was not stated. Interestingly, this match started late due to about 2 hours of rain, but overs were played. Hardik’s part neither won nor chose separate.
Now two “avijeta” will clash in the finals
On June 3, there will be a final match in which Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers will clash with Bangalore at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The special thing is that both teams have not won a single trophy in the history of IPL so far. This means that this season wins, but it is going to be written in the pages of history. This time one will get the first IPL crown!
