New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Digvijay Singh said on Wednesday that the Congress has taken a stand in Jammu and Kashmir that until the state status is restored there, it will not join the cabinet. The party also pledged to intensify its movement demanding to restore state status in Jammu and Kashmir. The Congress claimed that elections have been held in Jammu and Kashmir, but the elected government has no power and all kinds of rights have been given to the Lieutenant Governor. Singh said that there is a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, but the Congress has decided not to join the cabinet until the state status is restored there.
It is very important for Jammu and Kashmir to get state status
Digvijay Singh said in a press conference with Congress Legislature Party leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir and Jammu and Kashmir in-charge AICC General Secretary Naseer Hussain that today the situation is so bad that the police stops the Chief Minister in Jammu and Kashmir today and no government file can proceed further without the approval of the Lt. Governor. In such a situation, it is very important to give state status to Jammu and Kashmir to fulfill the promises made to the public. Mir said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called a meeting of representatives of all political parties of Jammu and Kashmir in June 2021 and suggested to restore delimitation, election and then state status in this order. He said that although most political representatives had demanded restoration of state status before the assembly elections in the Union Territory.
BJP did not fulfill its promise
It is said that Modi had insisted on delimitation, after this and then giving state status. Mir said that the delimitation process has been completed, elections have been held and an elected government has been formed for 11 months, but the BJP -led central government has not yet fulfilled its promise to restore state status. He said that while ending his 4,000 km India Journey Yatra in Srinagar, Rahul Gandhi had also committed with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge that the party would ensure restoring state status. Hussain said that it is unprecedented that the powers of elected representatives are with the indignant people like the Lieutenant Governor. He said that once the elected government will be restored to the powers, only then the people of Jammu and Kashmir will know what kind of scams took place during the rule of the non-elected people. The MP said that the Central Government canceled Article 370 on August 5, 2019.
