West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has alleged that Bengali speakers are being targeted in BJP ruled states. There is a possibility of anger on this issue.
Mamata Banerjee Slams BJP: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that the poor Bengali speaking workers of the state are being harassed by some BJP ruled states. According to the news agency PTI, Mamta Banerjee said that Bengali speaking people are being detained in other states and even they are being pushed into Bangladesh. Mamta Banerjee called these incidents “linguistic terror”.
Target through X post
CM Mamta Banerjee raised the issue through a post on social media platform X. He wrote in the X post, “Our Bengali -speaking people from various districts of West Bengal in Gurgaon, Haryana are constantly getting the custody and atrocities. It is a copy of their proper documents and tortured in these states.
Reaction given amidst political stress
The Chief Minister’s remarks have come amid growing political tension between Trinamool Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before the West Bengal assembly elections of 2026. The TMC leaders have long been accusing the BJP of targeting Bengalis outside the state and trying to suppress regional identity and language in the name of nationalism. On July 21, during the party’s annual martyrdom day rally, Mamata Banerjee called for a ‘language movement’ to oppose the BJP’s “linguistic terrorism”. There was no immediate response from the governments of Haryana or Rajasthan. However, BJP leaders in Bengal had earlier rejected such allegations of TMC as “baseless” and “concocted for political gains”. There is a possibility of increasing political arrogance on this issue.
