India-Rus Tariff Relation: America imposed 25% tariff on India, President Trump expressed resentment over relations with Russia. Learn what Trump said on India.
India-US Tariff relation: Tariff War between India and America is not taking the name of stopping. US President Donald Trump has said in a statement that he has come to know from sources that India is now stopping buying oil from Russia. He described it as a ‘good step’, but also added that he did not confirm this. This comment has come at a time when the US has announced a new tariff on about 70 countries including India. The import duty of 25% will be implemented on India from August 1, as well as ‘additional punishment’ on military and energy purchase from Russia has also been warned.
Trump’s comment about India
President Trump told reporters, ‘I have heard that India is no longer buying oil from Russia. If this is the case then this is a good step. Although I cannot confirm this, let’s see what happens next. However, this claim has not been officially confirmed. When Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal was asked questions on this, he said, ‘India decides its energy needs by looking at the price of oil and global situation in the international market. I have no information on the special question at the moment.
Tariff on India and relations with Russia targeted
A day before Trump’s statement, the US had announced a 25% tariff on all goods coming from India. President Trump accused India of ‘extremely difficult and derogatory business obstacles’ and said that India has been doing very little business with America for years. President Trump further said, “India has always bought most of its military goods from Russia and has been the biggest buyer of Russia in terms of energy. At a time when the whole world wants Russia to stop murders in Ukraine, it is not right.” He also reiterated that India would face punitive action on the purchase of oil and arms from Russia with 25% tariff from 1 August.
Hungry comment on India-Russia relations
Trump adopted the tone of India and Russia’s relations and said, ‘I don’t mind what India does with Russia. Both of them can drown together with their dead economy. India’s tariff rates are the highest in the world, and we have done very little business with India. It is clear from his comment that the US is uncomfortable about the growing defense and energy relations between India and Russia and is now adopting a straight pressure strategy.
The response expressed by US President Donald Trump to the reaction expressed to Russia’s oil purchases from Russia and the tariff imposed together has led to new tension in the relationship between the two countries. There has been no clear stand on this issue from India so far, but it is clear from the strict comments of America that in the coming days, there may be further stretch in India-US relations about trade and diplomacy.
