The Bombay High Court got the fourth bench in Kolhapur. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has appreciated the move. Said that this will save people’s time and money.
Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has announced the fourth bench of the Bombay High Court in Kolhapur, which will be operational from 18 August 2025 and will benefit six districts. In a historic development for western Maharashtra, the state government on Friday issued a notification to announce the establishment of the fourth bench of the Bombay High Court in Kolhapur. After the appointment of judges by the High Court, this circuit bench will work from August 18, 2025. A circuit bench of the Bombay High Court, will be employed to hear the cases on days set by judges and other benches from the main bench in Mumbai. This bench will provide significant assistance in making the justice administration more efficient. Apart from this, it will also save the time, effort and money of citizens.
Demand was pending for a long time
This bench will meet the requirements of Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts, which will benefit those citizens who had been struggling for this facility for many years. The order issued by the approval of the Governor of Maharashtra signed by Chief Justice Alok Aradh and said, “Using the powers provided by sub -section (3) of Section 51 of the State Reorganization Act, 1956 and using all other powers that enable me in this regard… I can appoint Kolhapur as a place where the High Court can also sit as a High Court from August 18, 2025. Fadnavis welcomed the move and described it as “long pending demand” of the area. He said that the High Court has approved the establishment of a judicial circuit bench in Kolhapur, which will meet the needs of six districts.
Citizens will save, efforts and money will be saved
This will reduce the burden of the litigants because it will save their time, money and hard work. Currently, the Bombay High Court operates from its main center in Mumbai, with three additional benches – Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (East Aurangabad) and in Goa. People of Konkan region are demanding a dedicated bench citing the difficulty of going to Mumbai for court action. Senior Advocate Rajiv Chavan, former chairman of the Advocates Association of Western India, said that this is a historic moment. Now the people of this region will get justice at the door of their house. The Chief Minister thanked Chief Justice Gawai and Chief Justice of High Court Aradhe for cooperation in the establishment of the new bench. He congratulated the people of the region and the legal fraternity and said that justice would be more accessible and efficient, as well as the time, effort and money of the citizens.
