Opposition leaders remember Satyapal Malik: Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik died at the age of 79 at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also expressed condolences on Malik’s death and described him as a person who kept talking about truth till the last moment. He said, “I will remember him as a person who always spoke fearlessly in the public interest.”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote that Malik said some such truth and found a special place in the politics of the country, which people are able to dare to speak. He saluted Malik by appreciating the clear stand taken for the peasant movement and the Pulwama attack.

Congress MP Imran Masood termed Malik’s death as personal damage. He said, “We had family relations. It is very sad to go to a strong farmer leader like this.”

Satyapal Malik not only served as MPs in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, but was also the Governor of sensitive states like Goa, Bihar, Odisha, Meghalaya and finally Jammu and Kashmir.
