Rain havoc in Himachal: Tanglaipi and Kangarung bridge shed, thousands of people stranded, school-college closed

Heavy rain in Himachal: Due to heavy rains in many parts of Himachal Pradesh, 617 roads and educational institutions including four national highways were closed on Wednesday. Due to rain on Tuesday night, there was a huge havoc on the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra route, due to which the yatra was postponed. Moderate to heavy rains continued in many parts of the state. 145 mm in Kasauli from Tuesday night, 122.8 mm in Dharampur, 120 mm in Gohar, 103.2 mm in Malraon, 95.9 mm in Baggi, 93.4 mm in Naina Devi, 86.4 mm in Naina Devi, 80.3 mm in Sundernagar, 71.4 mm in Bilaspur Dhaulakuan received 67 mm, Mandi 65.8 mm rainfall. According to the Meteorological Center, Shimla received 64.4 mm and Dharamshala received 64 mm of rain. The State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) said that on Wednesday, 617 roads including four national highways were cut. Of these, 377 are in Mandi district, which was recently affected by cloudburst, landslides and floods and 90 are in Kullu district.

Chandigarh-Manali National Highway closed

Chandigarh-Manali National Highway (NH 21), Old Hindustan-Tibet Road (NH 05), Mandi-Dharampur (NH 3) and Aut-Sainz Road (NH 305) have been closed for vehicles movement after landslides. Officials said that Shimla-Kalka National Highway, which was blocked at a mill bend near Koti in Solan district, has been opened for movement of vehicles. Passengers faced difficulties due to traffic jam due to closure of roads in many places. Educational institutions including schools, colleges and Anganwadi were closed in Sunni, Kumarsen, Chaupal, Rampur subdivisions, Karsog in Mandi district and some subdivisions of Solan district in Shimla district, Karsog and Sundernagar in Mandi district and some subdivisions of Solan district. The Kinnaur district administration has postponed the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra after heavy losses on the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra route due to heavy rains. According to officials, the bridges of Tanglaipi and Kangaran have been washed away due to increasing water flow in the rivers. Most tracking paths have either become dangerous slippery or have been hit by landslides, causing a serious threat to the safety of pilgrims.

Kinnaur Kailash Yatra postponed

The official order states that in view of these adverse conditions, the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra is being temporarily postponed till next notice. The pilgrims on the route have been accommodated in the cave and all necessary arrangements have been made for their safety. Kinnaur Kailash, considered to be the winter residence of Lord Shiva, is situated at an altitude of 19,850 feet. The yatra started on 15 July and was to continue till 30 August. The officials of Shimla Water Management Corporation Limited (SJPNL) have warned people to disrupted water supply due to excessive dirty on the water source for the next two-three days. Himachal Pradesh has suffered a total loss of Rs 1,852 crore since the onset of monsoon on 20 June. About 108 people have died in rain -related incidents, while 36 are missing. SEOC said that in addition to this, 1,491 power distribution transformers and 265 water supply schemes have been affected. 1,738 houses in the state have been completely or partially damaged, where so far 55 floods, 28 cloudbursts and 48 large landslides have occurred.
