Jerusalem: Israel’s security cabinet has approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to take military control over the city of Gaza. The scheme is mainly part of the five-point target of dismissing Hamas. Due to this decision, there has been a possibility of further increasing war in this area for almost two years. This controversial decision to control the city of Gaza has come amid a large -scale anti -government demonstrations throughout Israel, demanding to end the war immediately and ensure immediate return of more than 50 hostages who have been captive by Hamas for the last 22 months. Netanyahu’s office said that a decisive majority of ministers of the security cabinet believed that the alternative scheme submitted to the security cabinet would neither be defeated nor will the bound return to the hostage. What was the alternative plan is not immediately clear.
About 1200 people killed in war
The scheme approved by the security cabinet included five principles. These are: To disprove Hamas, return of all the hostages, the immersion of Gaza, Israeli Safety Control in Gaza and the establishment of a civil administration which is neither Hamas nor Palestinian Authority. Netanyahu’s office said that the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) would prepare to control the city of Gaza, distributing humanitarian aid to the civilian population outside the war areas. Earlier, Lieutenant General Iyal Zamir, Chief of Staff of Israeli Armed Forces, warned against full military victory over Gaza city and said that it would be a trap. Hamas attacked Israeli cities on 7 October 2023. After this, Israel started attacking Gaza. About 1,200 people died in the war. Hamas has also taken 251 people hostage and more than 50 of them are still in his possession.
Food and medicines crisis in Gaza
According to the Health Ministry run by Hamas of Gaza, more than 60,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military operations since then. Gaza is mainly struggling with a major humanitarian crisis due to lack of food and medicines. The World Health Organization said last month that the rate of malnutrition in Gaza has reached a dangerous level. Prior to the security cabinet meeting, Netanyahu told a group of Indian journalists on a tour that Israel does not want to capture or merge Gaza. Israel’s sole purpose is to completely eliminate Hamas.
Gaza is not planned to occupy: Netanyahu
The Prime Minister also said that Israel wants to control Gaza’s security. When asked about the food crisis in Gaza, Netanyahu said that more than 2 million tonnes of food items were sent to Israel, but the supply was stopped. Netanyahu said that our plan is not to capture or merge Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that our goal is to bring back our hostages, destroy Hamas and then hand over Gaza to a temporary government. The families of the hostages reacted sharply to this decision of the Israeli Security Cabinet as they feared controlling the city of Gaza would reduce the possibility of release of hostage. Families of hostages are demanding to end the war immediately.
