CBSE to Launch Community Radio Soon: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is now going to take a new step, which will become a new medium of communication and knowledge for students, teachers and other stakeholders. Soon CBSE is going to set up its own community radio station, so that education related information and content will be able to reach people directly and effectively.

Community Radio Plan

In the recent governing body meeting, CBSE approved this proposal. Consultative meetings will be held with stakeholders and experts in the next six months, so that the application process for the license can be carried forward. Also, its financial aspects will also be worked on.

New medium for education

CBSE is already running a podcast called “Shiksha Vani”, which provides subject material in time and simple language for students of class 9 to 12. So far, about 400 audio materials have been uploaded in it, which are in line with NCERT syllabus. After the start of the radio station, the scope of this material will be increased even more.

Community radio specialty

Community radio, is considered the third important column of radio broadcasting, which is neither public service broadcast nor commercial. It is operated by the local community and provides a platform for discussion in local language on issues like health, nutrition, education, agriculture. This creates direct connection between people, especially in areas where other means are limited.

Community radio status in India

There are currently 540 sanctioned community radio stations in India, which are run by non-profit organizations such as educational institutions, NGOs and Society. The government is also running several schemes to encourage its growth in rural and remote areas.

This new effort of CBSE will not only make education more accessible, but will also create a strong dialogue bridge between students, teachers and community. Education through community radio will no longer be limited to books, but will reach every house through voice.
