Punjab Flood: Beas and Sutlej floods in Punjab have made the situation difficult, but the preparations for the health department and administration have given relief to the people. From boat ambulances to health camps and preparations for hospitals, the government is active at every level.

Punjab Flood: In the past, the boom of Beas and Sutlej river has created flood -like situation in many districts of Punjab. The situation remains serious due to filling water in the villages. The Punjab government has activated health services on a large scale to deal with this challenging situation. Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh informed that 438 rapid response teams, 323 mobile medical teams and 172 ambulances have been launched in the ground so that treatment can reach any needy on time.

Deployment of health services and new initiatives

Flood water has reached villages in districts like Kapurthala, Firozpur, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur and Fazilka. Especially seven villages in Gurdaspur have been completely cut. In such a situation, the government started the facility of boat ambulance, through which eight pregnant women were evacuated safely and a woman also gave birth to the child under the supervision of doctors. At the same time, 241 people have been treated in the health camps set up in Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur, including diseases like diarrhea, gastroenteritis, fever, skin diseases and eye infections.

Epidemic prevention and appeal to the public

The biggest danger in flood conditions is waterborne diseases. The minister said that more than 2000 hospital beds have been prepared and there is no shortage of chlorine tablets, ORS and essential medicines in every district. So far only sporadic cases have come up, but the government is cautious. People have been appealed not to drink only boiled or chlorine water, do not eat stale food and contact the health teams to check the quality of water. Apart from this, any health related problems can be reported on the government’s toll-free helpline 104.

Shared effort between government and society

The Health Department is continuously working in the affected areas in collaboration with NDRF, SDRF, army and various NGOs. Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president Aman Arora appealed to party workers to actively help in flood -affected areas. He said that “This crisis will not end only by the efforts of the government, we will also have to get to the ground level and help people.” Arora assured that the government and administration together are making necessary arrangements in every district, so that no person has to face lack of healthcare and basic facilities.

At the same time, with the cooperation of social organizations and political activists, the message has become even stronger that the public will not be left alone in a difficult time. This disaster is not only administrative, but also a test of collective responsibility, which can be crossed together.
