Action against lawyer: A special court of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, has taken a tough stand against a lawyer for registering fake cases. A lawyer was convicted of misusing the identity of a Dalit woman and convicted of registering dozens of fake cases against his opponents and sentenced him to life imprisonment and also fined Rs 5.10 lakh. Special Judge (SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act) Vivekananda Sharan Tripathi on Tuesday ruled, in which lawyer Parmanand Gupta was convicted of conspiracy and misuse of law by registering false cases through Dalit woman Pooja Rawat to target his rivals.

29 fake cases on opponents

Special Public Prosecutor Arvind Mishra said that Gupta had registered at least 18 cases in his name and 11 other cases through Rawat in collusion with Rawat. Many of them were registered against his rival Arvind Yadav and his family in connection with property dispute. He said that false cases include allegations of rape and molestation. Investigation revealed that Gupta had conspired to use Rawat’s Dalit identity to falsely implicate Yadav and his family. However, during interrogation, it was revealed that Rawat was never present at the disputed site at the time of alleged incidents, and the house he claimed that he was on rent. He was actually under construction by the Yadav family. Pooja Rawat later submitted an application in the court on August 4, 2025, stating that she was implicated by Gupta and his wife Sangeeta, who runs a beauty parlor, where she worked as an assistant.

Ban on entry into court

Pooja Rawat admitted that she was forced to make false statements of sexual harassment before the magistrate. Pooja Rawat pleaded for apology. The court gave him a conditional apology. However, the judge admitted that Parmanand Gupta had conspired to know that there was a possibility of life imprisonment in the allegations. Therefore, he was entitled to strict punishment. While sentenced to life imprisonment, the court also directed that a copy of its decision should be sent to the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council to ensure that criminals like Advocate Parmanand Gupta could not enter the court premises and practice the law so that the sanctity of the judiciary remains.
