Jaishankar prasad in russia: India and Russia on Thursday pledged to increase their bilateral trade in a balanced and durable manner. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stressed the need to rapidly remove non-tariff barriers and regulatory obstacles. The resolve to increase two -way trade, including increasing Indian exports to Russia, has come amidst increasing estrangement in relations between India and the US over the policies of President Donald Trump on trade and tariffs. Jaishankar said in a joint media briefing after a comprehensive talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavarov that we believe that relations between India and Russia have been one of the world’s most stable relations after World War II. He further said that I made India aware of India’s determination to adopt a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and to protect my citizens against cross -border terrorism. From Jaishankar’s comments, it appeared that the main focus of his conversation with both Manturov and Lavrov was to promote two -way trade. He said that we confirmed our shared ambition to expand bilateral trade in a balanced and durable manner, including increasing India’s exports to Russia. He said that for this, there is a need to remove non-tariff obstacles and regulatory obstacles rapidly. Increasing Indian exports to Russia in areas such as pharmaceuticals, agriculture and textiles will definitely help in fixing the current imbalance.

India-Russia Summit
The Foreign Minister mentioned the ongoing preparations for the annual India-Russia Summit to be held at the end of the year. He said that today I want these bilateral discussions to be carried forward so that the maximum results of the annual summit can be achieved. It is believed that India-Russia energy relations were discussed prominently in Jaishankar’s conversation with Lavrov. US President Trump issued an executive order this month to impose 25 percent additional tariff on Indian goods, which is a punishment for continuous purchase of Russian oil by New Delhi. While defending its purchase of Russian crude oil, India has been saying that its energy purchase is inspired by national interest and market dynamics. Jaishankar held extensive talks with Russian first Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov on Wednesday.
