Choice for rang de basanti: Whenever we talk about the film ‘Rang De Basanti’, first of all, Aamir Khan’s DJ Charming character comes to mind. A cool boy who suddenly takes the responsibility of changing the system of the country while living friendship, laughter and carefree life. But do you know that Aamir Khan was not the first choice of film makers for this iconic role? Actually, the writer of the film Kamlesh Pandey revealed in an interview that DJ’s character was actually written for Manoj Bajpayee.

Small budget big dream
Kamlesh Pandey told that he kept circling the producers for almost six years with the script of Rang De Basanti, but no one was willing to invest money on this story. Then he thought that Manoj Bajpayee was signed for the film. Then the twist in the story came when Aamir Khan heard the script. Aamir not only associated with the film but he but he Rahman was also convinced to work in the project. After this, UTV, who rejected ‘Rang De Basanti’ twice, also gave the green signal for the project.

Tales related to ‘Sholay’
Kamlesh Pandey also told that many producers could not understand the story of the film. Some were jokingly avoided it by calling it ‘Sholay made from Basanti’s perspective. Think, the film that shook an entire generation was sometimes taken lightly. Well, the interesting thing is that Ranandeep Hooda was approached for Karan’s role. However, he turned down the role as he did not want to play a second role in front of Aamir Khan. Later he admitted that this was his big mistake. Later, Karan’s role was played by Siddharth and people also praised his work.

Finally made iconic cast
Siddharth (Karan), Sharman Joshi (Sukhi), Kunal Kapoor (Aslam), Atul Kulkarni (Laxman), R.K. Madhavan (Ajay) and Soha Ali Khan (Sonia) attended. Apart from this, British actress Alice Patton played the role of ‘Suu’ in ‘Rang De Basanti’. Rang De Basanti, released in 2006, was not only a super hit but also sent to Golden Globes and Oscars from India. Even though this film has not received a nomination, but this film still inspires people.
