But do you know that Saif Ali Khan was not the first choice for this film? Actually, this was revealed by the film’s director Kunal Kohli himself.

In an interview, Kunal Kohli told that his first choice for ‘Hum Tum’ was Hrithik Roshan. After working with him in ‘I am friends with me’, Kunal narrated the script of ‘Hum Tum’ to Hrithik. He also liked the story but at that time Hrithik was constantly giving flop films. At that time Hrithik’s confidence was also decreasing. Because of this, Hrithik Roshan asked Kunal Kohli to wait a few years. However, Kunal did not want to hold these films for so long.

Aamir and Vivek also offered
After Hrithik, Kunal Kohli also delivered the script of ‘Hum Tum’ to Aamir Khan. At that time Aamir was going through some personal problems. Actually, Aamir was getting divorced from Reena Dutta, due to which he could not pay attention to the film. Vivek Oberoi was also signed for this romantic movie after Aamir. At first he gave dates, but later the condition of some change in the film was placed and then withdrawn from the project.
Saif was finalized
After a long time, Aditya Chopra, head of Yash Raj Films, took forward the name of Saif Ali Khan. Kunal Kohli told that ‘As soon as I imagined Saif in every scene of you, he felt that he is perfect for it’. At that time Saif did not have any solo hit, but Aditya had faith in him. Interestingly, at the time of the trial screening of the film, Hrithik Roshan himself told Kunal Kohli that ‘Saif was perfect for this role’. By the way, he was true to say. That is why Saif Ali Khan was also given the National Award for ‘Hum Tum’. Made in a budget of Rs 8 crore, this film did a business of Rs 41.38 crore in the year 2004.
