Delhi: U-special service resumes with 25 electric buses

U-Special Bus Service: The ‘U-Special’ bus service for the students of Delhi University was re-launched by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday. On this occasion, Gupta traveled to Daulat Ram College, refreshing the memories of his student life and sang patriotic songs with the students. In the video shared on X, she was seen singing ‘Aye Watan Watan Mere Abad Tu’ with guitar and Konga. The Chief Minister said that this visit reminded him of his college days. Under the ‘U-Special’ bus service, 25 electric buses will be operated on several routes, which will connect 67 colleges and other educational institutions of Delhi University. This initiative has been taken with the aim of providing students safe and affordable travel options. Transport Minister Pankaj Singh was also present along with the Chief Minister. On reaching Daulat Ram College, Gupta met the Principal, teachers and students and also took a selfie with them.

Rekha Gupta reached Daulat Ram College

CM Rekha Gupta said that by returning to her Alma Mater, she got immense happiness and such services would be helpful in increasing the convenience of students. It is known that Rekha Gupta had graduated in Commerce from Daulat Ram College. A selfie with students and teachers of Daulat Ram College. It felt as if the page of an old book of time had suddenly opened up. He wrote in a post on X. He credited the important role of his college in entry into politics. Gupta has been the president of Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) in her student life. It was here that I learned to fly, here I chose the path of struggle and here I got the confidence that inspired me to become DUSU president and dedicate myself to public service. Daulat Ram is only more than walls and classes for me. Gupta said in the post that this is a feeling that shaped my thinking, gave direction to my dreams and gave my life a purpose.

Service was closed in 2020

The ‘U-Special’ bus service was originally launched in 1971, but was closed in 2020 during the lockdown inspired by the Covid-19 epidemic. The CM described U-Special Buses as a “lifeline of university life”, which carries not only the students but also their laughter, chatter and young dreams. He remembered that these buses used to bear the burden of the day. They used to run on time, college and home would deliver us without any hindrance. At the inauguration ceremony, Gupta narrated stories of his student life. In his emotional address, he said that he did not remember properly under which circumstances or during the tenure of which government, but when they were running, it was really the lifeline of Delhi University.

Students used to wait for buses

He told that these buses used to take responsibility for the students to take homes safe and on time. These were unforgettable moments traveling with friends, laughing and returning home together. The Chief Minister further told how much enjoyment used to travel in U-special buses. Students of all colleges used to board these buses with their friends, while common passengers were not allowed to go. He further said that we used to feel relaxed because we used to talk unknowingly, share stories and day -to -day events. We used to sing, jokingly, laugh and return home with a smile on the faces. The next morning, we eagerly waited for U-Special Buses. Laughing, CM Gupta told that in those days there was a work that today’s students will not be able to repeat in new buses.
