UK recognises Palestinian state: There was a historic turn in the world politics on Sunday. Actually, Britain has announced to recognize Palestine as an independent nation. Prime Minister Keyer Starmer took this decision despite strong opposition from the US and Israel. Starmer said that the aim of this step is to keep the hope of peace alive for both Palestine and Israel. This announcement has come at a time when countries like Canada and Australia have already taken steps in this direction. After this announcement of Britain, now more countries are expected to join the United Nations General Assembly.
Big decision amid protest
This decision of Britain is a symbolic, but historical matters. In 1917, Britain played a big role in laying the foundation of the state of Israel through the Balfor Declaration. In such a situation, recognizing Palestine is now being considered like completing that incomplete story. Former US President Donald Trump opposed this decision, saying, “I have disagreed with the Prime Minister on this issue.” At the same time, Israel also described it as a step promoting terrorism.

Trying to rectify mistake
“This recognition is an attempt to rectify the mistake of the colonial era that took place in 1917. Today the British people should be proud that history is improving that history is improving.” He said that this is not only political, but also moral responsibility. At the same time, Britain had been saying for a long time that Palestine would be recognized only when two-nation solutions are fixed with peace talks. But continuous violence in Gaza, displacement of millions of people and increasing expansion of Israeli settlements in West Bank is making this solution almost impossible.
Incomplete promise of history
Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy said, “We have to keep two-nation options alive, so that the children of Gaza, West Bank and East Jerusalem can also dream of peace and future.” It was also written in the Balfor declaration of 1917 that the citizens and religious rights of Palestinians would not be harmed during the establishment of Israel. However, even after 100 years, this promise is incomplete. This step of Britain is probably an attempt to improve the same injustice.
