Durga Puja in Bangladesh: The Hindu community in Bangladesh started the Chief Durga Puja festival on Sunday. More than two lakh personnel have been deployed across the country to ensure security. Eyewitnesses said that the voices of Dhol, Jayaghosh, conch and temple bells were echoing at Dhakeshwari National Temple in Dhaka, where devotees flocked to welcome Goddess Durga. The first day of the festival began with the unveiling of the face of the goddess on the day of Maha Shashthi. Basudev Dhar, president of Bangladesh Puja Utsav Parishad, told PTI that we hope that this year Pooja will be celebrated with pomp. We are happy with the help and security system of the government. He said that compared to last year, the number of puja pavilions has increased across the country this year. The organizers said that this year the puja is being celebrated in 33,350 pavilions or temporarily decorated pandals.
430 platoon of BGB deployed
According to the Government News Agency Bangladesh Sangabad Sanstha (BSS), retired Lieutenant General M Jahangir Alam Chaudhary said that about two lakh para police Ansar and more than 15,000 para military border guards Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed for worship safety. Chaudhary said that rumors or misinformation spread by the associates of the disgusting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina about worship can create confusion. He urged the media to remove any such wrong information. Meanwhile, a statement at the police headquarters said that the police force is committed to maintain law and order and maintain the tradition of inter-religious harmony in Bangladesh. Earlier on September 16, Bangladesh Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus visited Dhakeshwari National Temple to take stock of the preparations for Durga Puja.

This cited the reports of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom and Bangladeshi Rights Groups. The council said that minority communities faced 2,442 incidents of communal violence in 330 days from August 4, 2024 to 330 days, when political unrest reached its peak, causing the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government to collapse. It said that the incidents included murder, rape, sabotage in places of worship, forcible eviction and attacks on small communities.
