Relief to farmers: Payment of crop loan and electricity bills postponed

Haryana Government: The government on Wednesday transferred a compensation amount of more than Rs 4.72 crore to the accounts of 2,386 people. Heavy rains and floods have caused a lot of damage to crops.

Haryana Government: The Haryana government has given considerable relief to the flood affected farmers. The government has postponed the payment of crop loan and electricity bills. Giving relief to the flood affected farmers, Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini on Wednesday announced the postponement of the payment of crop loan and tubewell connection electricity bills in the state. Saini said that crops have suffered a lot due to heavy rains and floods recently. He said that the Haryana government is fully standing with flood affected people. He said that through the e-safety portal, the government on Wednesday transferred a compensation amount of more than Rs 4.72 crore to the accounts of 2,386 people. This amount has been given to those whose houses were damaged and animals died. He said that the compensation amount includes Rs 4.67 crore for the loss of houses and Rs 4.21 lakh for cattle.

7.10 lakh farmers relief

The Chief Minister said that 5.37 lakh farmers in 6,397 villages have registered themselves on the e-safety portal for crop loss. He further informed that the state government will provide compensation of Rs 15,000 per acre to the farmers after completion of verification. Saini said that before Diwali, the affected farmers will get compensation for crop loss. Saini said that recent heavy rains and floods have severely affected many districts of Haryana, causing a lot of damage to crops, livestock and property. He said that people who had to pay their bills by July 2025 can pay till January 2026 without any surcharge. He told that 7.10 lakh farmers will get relief from this. Saini further said that his government has also decided to postpone the payment of kharif crop loans taken from cooperative societies.

New crop loans will also be available

Announcing relief on crop loans, Saini said that in villages where more than 50 percent of crops have been destroyed and where 33 percent of the crops have suffered 33 percent or more loss of crop, the recovery of crop loans of kharif season taken from cooperatives has been postponed. New crop loans will also be provided to such farmers for the upcoming Rabi season. About 3 lakh farmers will benefit from this decision. Meanwhile, Saini said that by September 30, the state had arrived in 5 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, out of which 3.58 lakh metric tonnes had been procured. So far, 109 crore rupees have been transferred directly to the accounts of farmers. Similarly, state agencies have bought 187.30 MT millet, while traders have bought 4,970 MT. He said that in cases where the crop of a farmer gets spoiled and the traders have bought it at a low price, the government will ensure that the farmer is given compensation for the price difference as per the rate fixed for that day.

Government’s objective to empower panchayats: Saini

Meanwhile, Saini on Wednesday released an amount of more than Rs 404 crore to the Panchayati Raj Institutions of the state as the second installment of the State Finance Commission grant, which will promote rural development. This amount will be transferred directly to the accounts of 5,719 gram panchayats, 144 panchayat committees and three Zilla Parishad, which will speed up development works. Highlighting the government’s commitment to rural development, the Chief Minister said that in the last four years, Rs 3,700 crore has been allocated to Panchayati Raj institutions, in which Rs 3,300 crore has been invested directly in rural infrastructure and public facilities. He said that these figures show that every rupee of the government’s money is dedicated to increasing the quality of life of rural citizens. He said that the aim of the government is to empower panchayats with more rights, resources and responsibilities.
