Caste census: Amid caste census in Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar has advised the officials not to ask people personal questions. He said on Sunday that the officers and employees engaged in census work should take care of the privacy of the people. He has advised the officials engaged in caste census not to ask some questions that are of personal nature. He also called upon the people to participate in the survey. The survey being conducted by the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission started on 22 September and will run till 7 October. When asked about the objections on the questions asked during the survey, Shivkumar said that let anyone object, this survey will have to be done.
Appeal to participate in the survey
The court has said that the survey is voluntary and people can answer whatever they want. If they do not want to answer any question, then they should not be disturbed. Talking to reporters here, he said that I have told the officials that they should not ask people in Bengaluru how many chickens, sheep and goats are raising and how much gold they have. These are private matters. There is no need to ask how many watches or fridge they have. I have advised them that there is no need to ask such questions. I don’t know what they will do, because it is an independent commission. There is no point in opposing the survey. The Deputy Chief Minister said that since objections were raised about the earlier survey, everyone is being given an opportunity to participate. On the question of extending the survey period, he said that the Commission and the concerned departments will take a decision on it. I appeal to everyone to participate in the survey.
Keep in mind the privacy
Shivkumar, who is also the Minister of Bangalore Development, objected to several questions asked by the calculations at his house on Saturday, some of which refused to answer. In the Greater Bengaluru region, where five new corporations have been formed, the survey and necessary preparations were delayed at the request of the authorities. The survey is still going on. The Karnataka High Court refused to stop the survey last month, but directed the State Backward Classes Commission to maintain confidentiality of the collected data and ensure voluntary participation of citizens. According to officials, this survey, conducted at an estimated cost of Rs 420 crore, has been used with 60 questions questionnaires and it is being done in a scientific manner. The government spent Rs 165.51 crore on a former social and educational survey in 2015, which was later canceled.
