Russia-Ukraine War: Mohammed Ahmed, 37, of Hyderabad was lured by an agent from Mumbai with the promise of a job in a construction company in Russia. When the young man reached Russia under the influence of the agent, he was sent to the Russian border for the Ukraine war. Now he is finding himself forced to fight in the war on the Russia-Ukraine border. In this case, the wife of the victim youth has written a letter to Foreign Minister S Jaishankar requesting him to bring her husband back safely. Ahmed, who arrived in Russia in April 2025, did not get any work for almost a month. After this he was sent to a remote area along with 30 other Indians. In a video message, Ahmed said that he was forcibly trained in using weapons. He said that where I am, there is a war going on on the border. When we four Indians refused to fight, the Russian soldiers threatened us and pointed their weapons at me.
Russian soldiers pointed guns at refusal
Plaster is also visible on Ahmed’s leg in the video. He accused the agent of cheating and said that he was brought here fraudulently on the pretext of giving him work. This incident has once again brought to light the cases of fraud where Indian youth are lured with foreign jobs and sent to war-torn areas. The family has urged the government to intervene as soon as possible. After training, 26 Indian youth were taken to the border area to fight with the Ukrainian army. While being taken to the border area, Ahmed jumped from the army vehicle, due to which his right leg was fractured. He refused to fight. But he is being threatened that he will either fight against the Ukrainian army or be killed.
Wife appealed to the Foreign Minister
Ahmed’s wife along with family members met AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi here on Thursday and requested him to help in bringing Ahmed back to Hyderabad. Owaisi wrote a letter to the Ministry of External Affairs requesting to look into the matter and bring Ahmed back from Russia to India. An official of the Indian Embassy in Moscow wrote to Owaisi that he had shared Ahmed’s details with Russian authorities and requested the Russian Army to ensure his early release and safe repatriation to India. The official said the embassy is monitoring all cases of Indian nationals serving in the Russian Army on priority basis. The official further said that the embassy will keep the family informed about any further updates on Ahmed.
