Police on Tuesday investigated the car blast near the Red Fort as a possible terror attack and focused on a doctor from Pulwama who was driving the blasted car. The doctor was mainly related to a terrorist module busted with explosives recovered from Faridabad. Dr. Umar Nabi is feared dead in the explosion that took place on Monday evening. At least 12 people were killed in the explosion. On Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir Police took his mother’s DNA sample for testing. An official in Srinagar said that we have taken DNA samples to match the organs found at the blast site.

The government is considering the incident as a terrorist act

On the other hand, after a review meeting chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah, it was decided that the case should be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday handed over the investigation of the explosion near the Red Fort to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). This is a clear indication that the government is considering this incident as a terrorist act, because NIA has the authority to investigate only terrorist cases. A source said that the blast case has been handed over to the NIA. The decision came hours after Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the security situation in the national capital and other parts of the country following the blast. Shah had called another security review meeting on Tuesday afternoon. The Home Minister has said that top investigating agencies are probing the blast and they will investigate the incident in depth.

Top officers including Home Secretary attended the meeting

Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday reviewed the security situation in the national capital and other parts of the country after the blast near the Red Fort. After presiding over the morning meeting, Shah had also called a meeting in the afternoon. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha and NIA Director General Sadanand Vasant Date attended the first meeting. Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat also attended the meeting through virtual medium. During the meeting, top officials gave detailed information to Amit Shah on the situation after the blast. The Home Minister has said that top investigating agencies are probing the blast and will investigate the incident in depth.
