ED Action: Temporarily attached property worth Rs 61.20 crore of Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. An Enforcement Directorate official said on Thursday that the ED has attached 364 residential plots, agricultural land worth Rs 59.96 crore and movable assets worth Rs 1.24 crore in the form of fixed deposits. The agency initiated the investigation on the basis of an FIR registered by ACB/EOW Raipur, Chhattisgarh under various sections of IPC, 1860 and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 in the liquor scam in the state.
Chaitanya Baghel was the head of the liquor syndicate.
The ED has said that the police investigation revealed that the Chhattisgarh liquor scam caused huge loss to the state exchequer and the pockets of the beneficiaries were filled with the income of more than Rs 2500 crore earned from crimes. ED’s investigation under PMLA revealed that Chaitanya Baghel was the head of the liquor syndicate. The ED said his position as the chief minister’s son made him the controller of the liquor syndicate. He was responsible for maintaining accounts of all the illegal money collected by the syndicate. All major decisions related to collection, channelization and distribution of such funds were taken under his instructions.
Allegation of investing money in ‘Vitthal Green’ company
ED alleged that Chaitanya Baghel generated illegal income through his real estate business and presented it as immaculate property. Chaitanya Baghel invested the money received from the liquor scam in the development of his real estate project ‘Vitthal Green’. The statement said that Chaitanya Baghel was arrested by ED on July 18, 2025. Presently he is in judicial custody. Earlier, Anil Tuteja (former IAS), Arvind Singh, Trilok Singh Dhillon, Anwar Dhebar, Arun Pati Tripathi (ITS) and Kawasi Lakhma (MLA and then Excise Minister of Chhattisgarh) were arrested by ED in this case.
