Quite different from western thinking: Bhagwat

Mohan Bhagwat said that the concept of India’s nation is very old and organic. This is quite different from Western thinking. He also said that we do not argue with anyone and we stay away from fights. Fighting is completely different from our thinking, our thinking is to live together and take brotherhood forward. He said that once an opinion is formed, nothing other than that opinion is accepted. He said that they close the doors to other ideas and start calling it Islam. Bhagwat further said that we use the word nationality, not nationalism. He said that two world wars took place due to excessive pride in the country and this is the reason why people are very afraid of the word nationalism.

India’s nationalism is not due to pride, but due to people’s connection

He further said that if we look at the concept of nation as understood in the Western context, it generally consists of a nation state, in which a central government manages its territory. However, Bhagwat said that India has always been one nation and had different regimes even during the British rule. He said that India’s nationalism was not born out of pride but because of people’s deep connection and settlement in nature. He also said that we are all brothers, because we all are children of Mother India. Religion, language, food habits, traditions or state are not created by any other human being. Despite the diversity among us, we live together because the culture of our motherland is one.
