Paush Month Rules: According to the Hindu calendar, the month of Pausha has started from today, December 5, 2025, which will end on the full moon day on February 3, 2026. Paush month has special significance in Hindu religion. It is the tenth month of the year according to the Hindu calendar. This month is associated with Sun God and ancestors. In the month of Paush, Sun God is worshiped and charity is done remembering the ancestors. It is believed that worshiping Sun God in this month removes health related problems and remembering ancestors brings happiness and peace in the house. But this month some rules must be followed and one must stay away from wrongdoings. Know here which tasks should not be done in the month of Pausha.

what not to do
- Kharmas is affected in the month of Paush, hence it is not right to do any auspicious work in this month. Do not start any auspicious activities like marriage, mundan, housewarming etc. in Paush, otherwise the work gets spoiled and problems arise in life.
- No new work should be started in the month of Pausha. Do not start business, investment or any big work this month. Due to Pausha month being inauspicious, you may suffer financial loss.
- One should avoid eating brinjal, radish, lentils, urad dal and cauliflower in the month of Paush. Consuming them is considered inauspicious, hence you should not eat them. Apart from this, you should eat only satvik food in the month of Pausha. You should worship God by giving up non-vegetarian food and alcohol.
- It is believed that oil massage should not be done in the month of Pausha. Oil massage disturbs the flow of energy in the body and can have negative effects.
What to do
- There is special significance of offering Arghya to Sun God in the month of Paush. Every morning, after taking bath, put pure water, red sandalwood and red flowers in a copper pot and offer it to the Sun God and chant the mantra “Om Suryay Namah”. This ritual cures diseases and increases respect.
- Performing Shraddha, Tarpan and donations to ancestors on Amavasya, Sankranti, Purnima and Ekadashi is considered auspicious. This removes the curse of the ancestors and reduces the problems of life.
- In the month of Paush, worship Lord Vishnu the whole day and donate in temples. This brings blessings of both Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.
