Indigo Flights Cancelled: Passengers are facing a lot of trouble at many big airports of the country for the last two days. The reason was the sudden operational crisis of the country’s largest airline Indigo. Due to this, more than 1,000 flights were canceled on Friday. Big hubs like Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru were most affected by this. After this, an atmosphere of chaos was created at the airports.
What is the reason?
Indigo has described this crisis on its flights as the result of many unexpected operational challenges. The airline has also considered weather, change in inter-schedule and some technical problems as the reasons for this. However, aviation sources and regulator DGCA say that the real problem was FDTL (Flight Duty Time Limitation). Apart from this, the mistake in implementing the rules is also the reason for this. Actually, the new rules were issued in January 2024, but their strict enforcement has started now. The purpose of these rules is to provide rest to the pilots and protect them from fatigue. DGCA has clearly said that such a situation has arisen due to lack of planning and wrong assessment of Indigo.

Situation is improving
Late Friday night, Delhi Airport informed that IndiGo’s flight operations are gradually becoming normal. Passengers have been advised to check the status of their flight before leaving home. At the same time, the airline again apologized and said that this problem will not be fixed in a day, but the team is trying its best to make things normal as soon as possible. IndiGo CEO Peter Albers said in a video message that cancellations on Saturday are expected to be less than 1,000. Apart from this, the situation can be completely under control between 10th to 15th December. He accepted that December 5 was the most affected day, where more than 1,000 flights had to be cancelled.
full refund
IndiGo has announced that all bookings made between December 5, 2025 and December 15, 2025 will get a complete waiver on cancellation and re-scheduling. That means there will be no extra charge. At the same time, Minister of Civil Aviation, Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has ordered a high level investigation on this entire matter. He said that responsibility will be fixed and measures will be taken to ensure that such a situation does not arise in future. Also, FDTL rules have been suspended for the time being so that flights can operate regularly again.
