Baba Saheb Ambedkar: Thousands of followers remembered Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar on Saturday on Mahaparinirvan Day. Gathered at his memorial in Dadar area of Mumbai and paid tribute. Baba Saheb’s death anniversary was celebrated as ‘Mahaparinirvan Diwas’. On this occasion, Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray paid tribute to Ambedkar at ‘Chaityabhoomi’ of Shivaji Park. The Governor said that Ambedkar gave the country a Constitution, which ensured equal rights for all people. Speaking at the tribute ceremony organized at ‘Chaityabhoomi’ on the occasion of Dr. Ambedkar’s 69th Mahaparinirvan Day, Devvrat said that great personalities strengthen social justice movements and live forever through their thoughts and actions. He said that despite adverse circumstances, Baba Saheb considered education as the most powerful weapon to change the future of family, society and country. The Constitution united people from different communities and ensured equal rights for all.
Ambedkar laid the foundation of country’s progress: Fadnavis
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that Ambedkar laid the foundation of the country’s progress and due to his visionary thinking, India has emerged as the fourth largest economy in the world. Soon India is going to reach third place. Fadnavis underlined Ambedkar’s role in India’s energy security and said that the adoption of the National Power Grid concept paved the way for the country towards energy self-reliance. He said that the Constitution ensured a strong democratic base and protected the rights of common citizens. He said that the state government is committed to complete the development works on the ‘Chaityabhoomi’ memorial. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that Ambedkar’s struggle was for the establishment of equality, freedom, justice and fraternity. He said that the guiding principle of educate, organize and agitate continues to inspire social change.
Shower of flower petals on ‘Chaityabhoomi’
Several ministers, MPs, MLAs and dignitaries, including the Governor, Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, paid floral tributes at the memorial. The dignitaries also visited a photo exhibition organized by BMC. During this, flower petals were showered on ‘Chaityabhoomi’ from a helicopter and copies of the Constitution were presented to the people present. Every year thousands of people from across the state gather at ‘Chaityabhoomi’ on 6th December. Ambedkar died on this day in 1956. In view of the huge crowd of Ambedkar’s followers, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had set up temporary sheds, mobile toilets, drinking water and medical stalls in Shivaji Park. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also remembered Ambedkar’s visionary leadership. Said that his visionary leadership and justice will continue to guide our national journey. He inspired generations to uphold human dignity and strengthen democratic values. Modi said in his message that his ideals will continue to pave our way towards building a developed India.
