Japan Earthquake Explainer: There is always a fear of earthquake in Asian countries and especially in Japan. On Monday, a strong earthquake of 7.5 magnitude occurred in Aomori province of Japan, increasing the risk of tsunami. The earthquakes that have occurred in Japan many times have caused huge damage to the country. Japan experiences 1500 to 2000 earthquakes every year. If the intensity of even one is more then it is very painful to see the sunken roads, fallen debris of houses and the condition of the families of those who lost their lives after the earthquake.
Why is Japan suffering from earthquakes?
There is a big reason behind suffering from earthquake tremors. Actually, Japan is situated on four tectonic plates of the earth. Tectonic plates are the outer hard layers of the Earth, which in the form of pieces keep floating and sliding slowly due to the tension on the molten rock below. The four plates on which Japan lies are called ‘Ring of Fire’. At other places these plates do not move much, but these four plates of the Ring of Fire keep manipulating or shifting among themselves continuously.
When did the worst earthquake occur in Japan?
Although small earthquakes are felt every day in Japan, but the most terrible earthquake in the history of Japan occurred in the year 1923, when 1 lakh to 1 lakh forty thousand people were killed. The intensity of this earthquake was 7.9. After the earthquake, there was a massive fire, which destroyed the cities of Tokyo and Yokohama. After this, the most intense earthquake occurred in the year 2011, whose intensity was 9.1. 18,000 to 20,000 people lost their lives in this earthquake. The earthquake caused waves up to 30 meters high, which caused devastation in Japan.

Japan’s monitoring system
Japan, which is always on alert, has now made large-scale preparations to deal with earthquakes. Japan’s earthquake monitoring system is very strong and fast. Japan’s monitoring agency, within a few seconds of the earthquake, all the information about the earthquake’s center, Richter scale and magnitude is immediately released on all TV channels across the country and warning alerts are sent to people on their phones. Additionally, if there is a threat of a tsunami, a tsunami warning is issued and all danger points are reported on national TV.
Emergency services are also activated. Loudspeakers have also been installed in many areas to provide information about the disaster. Overall, this information is issued within sixty seconds so that people can go to a safe place in view of the danger of earthquake.
