AAP left the ground, BJP hopes to win

Oberoi said that MCD elections are to be held tomorrow and we will boycott it completely. Said that many public-centric decisions were taken under the leadership of Kejriwal.

New Delhi: The BJP is gearing up to hold the post of Mayor of Delhi. Two years later, elections are to be held for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor on Friday. The Aam Aadmi Party is expected to boycott the election and easily capture the municipal corporation posts with a minor presence of the Congress. Due to which the control over Delhi will be strengthened through the nominated MLAs nominated in the Center, Legislative Assembly and now MCD.

Senior BJP leader and former Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, who is the party candidate for the post of Mayor, told PTI that Delhiites have entrusted the BJP to fix the problems of the city. He said that you have accepted your defeat. We will eliminate corruption and complete all the pending work stopped for the last two years. He said that after the mayor is elected, elections of permanent committees will be conducted immediately. Meanwhile, AAP Councilor and former Mayor Style Oberoi and House leader Mukesh Goyal held a press conference on Thursday. In which he reiterated his party’s decision to boycott the election. Oberoi said that MCD elections are to be held tomorrow and we will boycott it completely.

He accused the BJP of making the municipal elections a spectacle with his so -called “triple engine power”. He said that many public-centric decisions were taken under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, but the sole purpose of the BJP has been “grabbing power”. The current strength of MCD is 238, as 12 seats are vacant due to some councilors being elected to the Delhi Assembly and a Lok Sabha. Out of 250 seats, BJP now has 117 councilors, while the number of AAP has come down from 134 to 113. Congress has only eight seats.

In the last mayor election held on November 14, 2024, AAP’s Mahesh Kumar Chhunchi won by a slight margin of just three votes. BJP has nominated Jai Bhagwan Yadav from Begumpur ward for the post of deputy mayor. Meanwhile, the Congress has also stepped into the fray, in which Mandeep Singh (Nangloi, Ward 47) and Aribal Fazal Khan (Abul Fazal Enclave, Ward 188) have filed nominations for the mayor and deputy mayor respectively. The election of the mayor will be held at 2 pm on Friday, along with a simple April meeting of the municipal body.
