Tarn Taran By-Election 2025: Randhawa of Shiromani Akali Dal was continuously leading in the first three rounds of vote counting, but later Harmeet Singh took the lead and after that he maintained the lead.

Tarn Taran By-Election 2025 : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has registered a landslide victory in the by-election held on Tarn Taran assembly seat of Punjab. AAP candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu defeated his nearest rival and Akali Dal candidate Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa by a margin of 12,091 votes. According to the Election Commission website, after completion of all 16 rounds of counting, Harmeet Singh Sandhu got 42,649 votes, while Randhawa got 30,558 votes. Celebrations were held at AAP offices in Tarn Taran and Chandigarh. Party workers celebrated the election victory by dancing to the beats of drums and bursting crackers.

BJP remained at fifth place

Randhawa of Shiromani Akali Dal was continuously leading in the first three rounds of counting, but later Harmeet Singh took the lead and after that he maintained the lead. Apart from this, independent candidate Mandeep Singh stood third with 19,620 votes, Congress’s Karanbir stood fourth and BJP’s Harjeet Singh Sandhu stood fifth. A total of 15 candidates were in the fray in the by-election and 60.95 percent voting took place in the by-election held on November 11. Voting began at 8 am at the International College of Nursing in Piddi amid tight security and there were a total of 1,92,838 voters. The Tarn Taran seat had become vacant after the death of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal in June.

This victory belongs to the people

This by-election was being seen as a litmus test for Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the ruling AAP. With Friday’s victory, the party has won 6 of the seven by-elections held in the state after coming to power in March 2022. Let us tell you that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal wrote in his ex-post congratulating that this historic victory in the Tarn Taran by-election has made it clear that the people of Punjab have expressed the politics of work.
