CM Omar Abdullah: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday said that he will not form an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to restore the statehood of the Union Territory. He said that his party has no intention of repeating the mistakes made by others in the past. Abdullah said that if restoration of statehood depends on BJP coming to power in Jammu and Kashmir, then the national party should say so honestly.

Advice to BJP to be honest

He said that if this is the compromise to be made with the people, then BJP should be honest. Because BJP never said in its manifesto and in its promises to Parliament and the Supreme Court that statehood depends on BJP coming to power in Jammu and Kashmir. Abdullah said that if it is so, then I think BJP should be honest. BJP should tell us that as long as there is a non-BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir, you will not get statehood. Then we will decide what we want to do.

Accused of ruining Jammu and Kashmir

Abdullah, however, said that the question of alliance with BJP does not arise. When Abdullah was asked at the press conference whether his party would form an alliance with the BJP to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, he said no. He said that Jammu and Kashmir is still suffering the ill effects of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)-BJP alliance in 2015. The Chief Minister said that we have already seen how much it has ruined Jammu and Kashmir. In the year 2015, an unnecessary alliance took place between PDP and BJP. We are still suffering its consequences. I have no intention of repeating the mistakes that other people have made.
