Kerala News: A drunken man pushed a woman passenger from a moving train near Varkala in Kerala. The woman refused to move from the door. According to the FIR, the accused has been identified as Suresh Kumar (50), a resident of Panachamoodu, who in a fit of anger pushed Srikutty, 20, a resident of Palode, out of the train. Hospital officials said the injured woman’s condition has improved, but she is still in the ICU. Thiruvananthapuram Railway Police has registered a case of attempt to murder against Kumar under section 109 of the Indian Judicial Code (BNS). Sreekutty and her friend Archana (19) were traveling in an unreserved coach of Kerala Express from PTP Nagar Aluva to Thiruvananthapuram when the incident happened on Sunday. The FIR states that when Sreekutty refused to move away from the door, the accused got angry and kicked her on the back and pushed her out of the moving train.

Friend Archana screamed for help, after which the accused caught hold of Archana’s hand and leg and tried to push her out as well. A case was registered on the basis of Archana’s complaint. Police said the medical examination confirmed that Kumar was drunk. He had boarded an unreserved coach from Kottayam. The police have registered Kumar’s arrest and produced him in the court. Later he was sent to judicial custody. Sreekutty is undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for serious head and stomach injuries. He is still on ventilator. An official said that a team of doctors is under strict surveillance. Srikutty’s mother Priyadarshini said doctors told her that her daughter had suffered around 20 injuries. He said the family is worried as doctors have not given any assurance about his condition. He has demanded better treatment for Srikutty. Priyadarshini said that her daughter was going to raise her voice against wrongdoings.

Incident happened near Varkala station

She said that whenever she saw something wrong, she always raised questions. That’s why he was attacked. He said that there is no safety for women in general compartments. We have to protect ourselves, because there is no one to protect us. Health Minister Veena George has directed the Superintendent of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College to constitute a medical board and ensure expert medical care to Sreekutty. The incident occurred shortly after the departure of Kerala Express from Varkala railway station at around 8.30 pm. When Sreekutty and Archana came out of the toilet, the accused attacked them. The passengers informed the police and Railway Protection Force (RPF) by pulling the emergency chain. Search was started. The woman was found lying on the tracks about two kilometers away from Varkala station. He was first taken to Varkala railway station by MEMU train and then admitted to a nearby private hospital. Seeing his critical condition, he was later taken to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. The accused caught by the RPF personnel was handed over to the Railway Police at Kochuveli station.
