Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed: Air Force training plane crashed in Bangladesh on Monday, in which 19 people died and dozens of people were injured. Officials and eyewitnesses said that a training aircraft of Bangladesh Air Force collided with a school building in Dhaka soon after flying on Monday, killing at least 19 people, mostly children. China-made F-7 BGI training aircraft crashed in the Milestone School and College campus in Uttara area of Dhaka. “At least 50 others were seriously injured in the accident and subsequent fire,” Brigadier General Zahed Kamal, Director General of Fire Service and Civil Protection, was injured. He said that during the rescue operation, rescuers have recovered 19 bodies from the school premises alone. ”
Eight people are in critical condition
Mohammad Saidur Rahman, a special assistant to Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the Ministry of Health, said that 72 people are hospitalized due to burning and other types of injuries due to the crashed of the aircraft in the Milestone School and College campus. He informed that the injured, mostly students, are being treated at Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka Medical College Hospital and National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS). According to doctors, eight of the injured are in critical condition. A doctor of NIBPS told the media, “The number of injured being brought to our hospital is increasing.” Rahman said that the aircraft pilot, flight Lieutenant Mohammad Tauqir Islam is undergoing treatment at the ICU of Combined Military Hospital. The Ministry of Defense said in a statement that the F-7 BGI training aircraft flew at 1:06 pm and crashed in the college campus immediately after that. A fire officer said that the aircraft hit the four -storey building of the Milestone School with a loud explosion and caught fire immediately. According to the police, soon after the accident, the fireworks, ambulances and Air Force helicopters reached the spot. A school teacher, on the condition of anonymity, said that the security personnel were taking the bodies in a body bag and taking them to a joint military hospital in Dhaka, where children from class one to seven are studying. He said, “Dozens of ambulances are taking the injured to nearby hospitals.”
State mourning declaration
The National Burn Institute in the capital said that they are treating 18 people, most of which are students and some are in critical condition. The interim government has announced a day -long state mourning on 22 July, the day the national flag will be half tilted in the embassies in Bangladesh and its abroad. Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus expressed deep grief over the casualties in the accident. He said in a statement, “I am deeply saddened by the casualties in a heartbreaking accident in Bangladesh Air Force in the Milestone School and College campus.” Faheem Hussain, a student of class XI, said that the aircraft crashed right in front of his eyes, just 10 feet ahead of his eyes. Faheem told The Daily Star, “It fell on the ground of a two -storey building at around 1:15 pm, where primary classroom classes were going on.”
