Union Home Minister Amit Shah: Bills have a provision to remove the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers and Ministers arrested for 30 days in serious criminal charges, which the opposition strongly opposed.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Wednesday that the people of the country will have to decide whether it is appropriate to run a government while in jail of a minister, Chief Minister or Prime Minister. Shah said this a few hours after introducing three bills in the Lok Sabha. Among these bills, there is a provision to remove the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers and Ministers arrested for 30 days in serious criminal charges, which the opposition strongly opposed. The draft laws were sent to a joint committee of Parliament. The Home Minister said that on the one hand Prime Minister Narendra Modi should bring the Constitution Amendment Bill to bring himself under the purview of the law and on the other hand the entire opposition under the leadership of the Congress is opposing it. The opposition is protesting to stay out of the purview of the law, run a government from jail and not to leave its fascination for power.
Modi government strict against corruption
He said in many posts on X in Hindi that now the people of the country will have to decide whether it is appropriate to run a government while in jail of a minister, Chief Minister or Prime Minister. Shah said that with the consent of the Lok Sabha Speaker, he introduced a Constitution Amendment Bill in Parliament with the consent of the Lok Sabha Speaker, which ensures that the government cannot run the government while in jail, with the consent of the Lok Sabha Speaker, in view of the Modi government’s commitment and public outrage against political corruption in the country. He said that the purpose of this bill is to raise the falling level of morality in public life and bring honesty in politics. The law that will come into existence through these three Bills is as follows: No person can rule as the Prime Minister, Chief Minister or Minister of the Central or State Government while arrested and in jail.
Will have to be presented in court within 30 days
He said that when the constitution was formed, then our constitution makers would not have even imagined that there will be political persons in future who will not resign on moral grounds before they are arrested. The Home Minister said that in recent years, a amazing situation has arisen in the country where the Chief Minister or the minister has been running the government immorally from jail without resignation. He said that the bill also includes a provision which allows an accused politician to take bail. Will have to appear in court within 30 days of arrest. He said that if they fail to get bail within 30 days, then either the Prime Minister or the Chief Minister of the states would remove them from their posts, or they would be legally disqualified to discharge their duties automatically.
