Anti-mog gun mandatory on tall buildings in Delhi

Urban local bodies have been instructed to identify all such buildings. Building owners have been given six months time for anti-smog guns.

New Delhi: The Delhi government has made it mandatory for all high commercial, institutional and hospitality buildings to deal with pollution in the national capital. Delhi’s Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that the number of required anti-mog guns will depend on the construction area of the building. Buildings with an area of less than 10 thousand square meters require at least three anti-somog guns. He said that the number increases progressively. An additional gun is required for every 5 thousand square meters ahead of 25 thousand square meters.

Six months given time for anti-smog gun

He informed that buildings with area built between 10,001 and 15 thousand square meters require at least four anti-mog guns, while at least five guns should be deployed in areas with 15,001 to 20,000 square meters. At least six guns are mandatory for areas constructed between 20,001 to 25,000 square meters. The minister said that urban local bodies have been instructed to identify all such buildings, ensure widespread spread of instructions and monitor compliance. Building owners have been given six months time for anti-smog guns. Minister Sirsa said that these measures will have a significant impact on reducing pollution in Delhi.

Government decided due to deteriorating air quality

He said that this year we want the people of Delhi to feel the difference. According to the instructions issued by the Department of Environment and Forests, it applies to all commercial complexes, malls, hotels, office buildings and educational institutions, which are the surface plus five floors and above and whose constructed area is more than three thousand square meters. The Delhi government has taken this decision due to deteriorating air quality in the National Capital Region. Earlier, anti-somog guns were deployed on a limited basis over government and private tall buildings. In 2023, 98 anti-somog guns were deployed, while in 2024 the number increased to 156.

Spraying of water from high places is an effective method

The government now wants to expand this remedy throughout the city, which includes all tall buildings that can play a role in reducing local dust pollution, especially in the winter season. The environment department has said that spraying of water from high places is an effective way to suppress the particles in the air. Anti-smog gun is designed to leave fine mist that binds dust particles and brings them to the ground, which improves air quality.

Limited water used

The government has limited the use of water. Water consumption for each machine should not exceed 1,200 liters per hour or in eight hours of operation. The instructions also emphasize on integrating the air quality monitoring system with each installation and reducing the level of noise caused by air blowers. A quarterly action report will be submitted to the Environment Department and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee along with the list of violations.
