Police said that 28-year-old Sripriya worked in a private firm in Coimbatore and was living in a private women’s hostel after separating from her husband. Due to a quarrel with her husband, the woman left her two children in the care of her mother in Coimbatore and started living in a hostel. Her husband, S Balamurugan, 32, went to her hostel on the pretext of meeting her on Sunday afternoon and later, following an altercation, hacked her to death with a sickle, police said. Rathinapuri police have registered the case and are investigating.

The man remained in the hostel until police arrived and was taken into custody on Sunday, an official said. Weapons have also been recovered from him.
