Beijing puts pressure on Taiwan before APEC summit!

APEC Summit: APEC summit is going to be held in China next year and during this, Taiwan will also participate along with the member countries. Meanwhile, Beijing put pressure on Taiwan to accept a Chinese principle.

APEC Summit : China announced on Wednesday that next year’s APEC summit will be held in Shenzhen. Meanwhile, regarding Taiwan’s participation as a member, Beijing said that at present it is a political necessity to accept the ‘One-China Principle’. The Asia Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) summit concluded in South Korea last week, where a meeting took place between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump and an informal agreement was reached to end the tariff war between the two countries. Apart from this, in the second session of the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, Xi said that the economy of the Asia-Pacific region should strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation.

These countries are included in APEC

The APEC group consists of 21 member economies, which mainly include Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, New Zealand, the United States, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, China, Taipei, Chile, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Russia and Vietnam. Apart from this, China has always considered Taiwan as a part of its country, it is also a member of APEC in the form of Chinese Taipei. Meanwhile, Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung accused Beijing of retreating from its earlier commitment to support ‘equal’ participation in APEC.

China responded to Taiwan’s Foreign Minister

At the same time, on Taiwan’s criticism, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said in a media briefing that under the One China principle, it should participate as a regional economy. Also, the conditions given in the APEC agreement should be followed. He said China’s stance on this issue is clear and firm that Taiwan should accept the one China principle. Lin told Taipei media that during last year’s APEC meeting in Peru, when China was vying for next year’s hosting rights, Taiwan’s equal participation was also mentioned. According to the report of South China Morning Post, in the APEC Memorandum of Understanding of 1992, it was agreed that the One China principle would have to be followed and ministerial representatives would have to be sent instead of its leader.
