Sushila Karki: Former Chief Justice of Nepal, 73 -year -old Sushila Karki, who has now become the first woman Prime Minister of the country to lead the interim government, has a deep connection with Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Karki, who recently described herself as a “friend of India” in an interview to the media, has studied postgraduate from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. During his stay in BHU, he met his life partner Durga Prasad Subedi. Deepak Malik, former professor of political science in BHU, recalled Karki’s stay in the prestigious university. Former professor Malik told PTI that Sushila Karki did his MA in political science from BHU in 1975. At that time, Varanasi was the center of anti -monarchy movement in Nepal for a long time.
Active in anti -monarchy movement
He said that Karki also joined the movement. Incidentally, famous writer BP Koirala, who later became the Prime Minister of Nepal, was also active in Varanasi at the same time. He said that BP Koirala was also in Varanasi between 1940 and 1980 and was working for Nepali Congress, which was BHU. Thus Sushila Karki joined the anti -monarchy movement. He said that I congratulate him. Malik said that Nepali youth have questioned corruption and economic inequality and said that these issues need to be focused. On Friday, Karki became the first woman Prime Minister of Nepal to lead the interim government.
Elections will have to be held within six months
The political uncertainty continued for several days as Karki became the PM, when the KP Sharma Oli government had to resign due to the nationwide movement after the ban on social media. President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath of office and confidentiality to Karki. Five days ago, Oli resigned as Prime Minister. This was the worst unrest in the Himalayan nation in decades. Paudel said that the new caretaker government led by Karki has the right to hold new parliamentary elections within six months. Chief Justice of Nepal, senior government official, head of security and members of the diplomatic community attended the swearing -in ceremony of the new Prime Minister.
