Bihar Elections: Strict guarding on Jharkhand border, 24×7 vigil to stop smuggling of cash and liquor

Bihar Election: Jharkhand has started 43 check posts in its 10 border districts to stop smuggling of cash and liquor in Bihar.

Bihar Election: In view of the assembly elections in the neighboring state of Bihar, the Jharkhand government has tightened security arrangements on its border. Jharkhand has started 43 check posts, including nine new ones, in its 10 border districts to curb illegal movement of cash, liquor, narcotics and other prohibited items into Bihar. Jharkhand Police spokesperson and Inspector General Operations (IG Operations) Michael Raj told PTI that check posts have been set up in the border districts on the request of Bihar. Security arrangements have been tightened at these posts. A total of 43 check posts have become operational in 10 districts sharing the border with the neighboring state. These posts are operational round the clock. Raj said that we have established nine new posts in addition to the existing 34. At present there are 43 active posts in all the 10 districts bordering Bihar. These districts are Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Giridih, Deoghar, Dumka, Godda and Sahibganj.

Security personnel and magistrate deployed

According to the police, strict vigil will be maintained in Bihar till the end of the second phase of elections to be held on November 11. The official said that security personnel, magistrates and videography teams are jointly deployed at all the checkpoints to ensure transparency and law enforcement. He said that these measures have started yielding results. Koderma Superintendent of Police Anudeep Singh said that acting on a tip-off that a liquor consignment was being taken to Bihar, a special team led by the local police station in-charge was deployed at a check-post. During the search, officials found a huge quantity of Indian-made foreign liquor bottles in the trunk of the car. The driver, a resident of Namkum, Ranchi, has been arrested.

Rs 16.5 lakh recovered at Chordaha check post

Last week in Hazaribagh district, cash worth Rs 16.5 lakh was seized from a car at Chordaha check post of Chauparan police station area, which was stopped for investigation. Chauparan police station in-charge Saroj Singh Chaudhary said that a Delhi resident, who could not provide any valid document or satisfactory explanation for possessing such a huge amount of cash, was arrested and later sent to judicial custody after verification by Magistrate Kedar Sao. This matter will be sent to the Income Tax Department for further investigation. A senior official said that there is proper coordination between the administrations of 10 districts of Jharkhand and eight border districts of Bihar. He said these measures are part of a comprehensive security plan to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections in the region. Voting for the 243-member Bihar Assembly will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11 and the counting of votes will take place on November 14.
